Rios Clementi Hale Studios provided tenant improvement and interior design services for The David Bohnett Foundation. The program called for an extensive renovation of an existing two-story brick office building in Beverly Hills with voluntary seismic improvements.

The first floor is comprised of a new conference room, kitchenette, bathrooms and a large private office. The first floor spaces have direct physical and visual access to courtyards to the north and south. The courtyards provide a mixture of hardscape, landscape and water-features and function as informal meeting spaces for the building’s tenants. The second floor features a common reception area and kitchenette servicing a total of 9 private offices and 4 open workstation areas. Finishes and colors were selected that reflect daylight and provide a light, neutral background.
A significant design component was the fabrication of custom steel/wood/glass partitions that allow daylight into each private office and views into shared open spaces between offices as well as views to the outside. The ceiling in the main reception area was removed and restructured to expose the existing hip roof. New skylights were installed over the reception area and exterior stairwell to bring views of the sky and daylighting deeper into the building. The dialogue between the rusticated existing shell and new steel and glass partitions is continued throughout all aspects of the project from paint colors/gloss to hardware and furniture to intentionally conflate and blur the line between existing and new.
