Our façade renovation for the west coast headquarters of the media and Internet company IAC brings the inside out and the outside in. Its most striking element is a gently curving 70-foot grid planted with a broad range of drought-tolerant California-native grasses, shrubs, and flowers.

The plants are arranged according to the amount of sun they need, and irrigated by an innovative system that captures and repurposes nearly 7,000 gallons of nuisance water that previously had to be pumped out of the building's underground garage each month. A digital monitoring system checks moisture and pH balance levels to ensure the vegetation always gets the right amount of water.

The living wall carries the landscape up the sides of the building, inspiring a connection to the nearby California hillside. The unusual
matrix of greenery becomes a living sculpture that transforms one of the busiest sections of West Hollywood's Sunset Strip. The green screen allows light to pass through to the office building, while providing a natural canopy for a new outdoor patio for a ground floor restaurant.

A diagonal pattern of pavers begins inside the lobby and continues all the way to the street, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The pavers also define a small public plaza in front of the building that invites passers-by to stop and take notice. Custom-designed benches, planters, and a fountain make the plaza even more inviting.

The overall landscape plan includes remodeling the ground level storefronts and updating the signage throughout the site.
